In the IPL 2025 final against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), the Punjab Kings (PBKS), led by Shreyas Iyer, will need to consider these three key strategies to use their strengths to exploit RCB's weaknesses. The Ahmedabad pitch, known for its high-scoring nature, calls for a clear game plan. Here’s what PBKS needs to get right to win their first IPL title.
The PBKS are set up with a solid top order in the form of Priyansh Arya, Prabhsimran Singh, and Josh Inglis, who need to maximize the power play and set a platform. Arya's attacking intent and Inglis's ability to attack pace will exploit RCB's bowlers in Josh Hazlewood, who preys on the swing in the new ball. Shreyas Iyer will come in at 4 and manage the innings, having set up a big Powerplay, which means they will be scoring at a high rate. With a target of 60+ runs in the first 6 overs, it makes life easier for the middle order.
PBKS’s bowling attack, led by Arshdeep Singh and Kyle Jamieson, needs to target RCB’s premier batsmen like Virat Kohli and Phil Salt early. Arshdeep can swing the ball away from Salt, while Jamieson's bounce can disrupt Kohli on Ahmedabad’s bouncy pitch. Yuzvendra Chahal's spin department will be critical against the middle order, particularly against Rajat Patidar, who struggles against any wrist-spin. Sharp captaincy from Iyer must also ensure tight rotations of bowlers to keep RCB’s batsmen from seizing control of the match.

Whether chasing or setting a difficult total, Shreyas Iyer and Nehal Wadhera must command the middle overs (7-15). Iyer knows how to pace an innings, and wadhera plays aggressive strokes. Together, they would find ways to drive through RCB’s spinners, including Suyash Sharma. Their partnership should be able to maintain the run rate above 10, considering the size of the ground in Ahmedabad. If PBKS is on top, then players like Marcus Stoinis are ready to take advantage in the end.
