Andre Russell was on his knees when the ball dismantled the stumps. Pakistan international Haris Rauf was unplayable in match 3 of the ongoing Major League Cricket (MLC 2025). Rauf released a bullet-like delivery to dismiss the giant batter.
The match was between San Francisco Unicorns and Los Angeles Knight Riders (SFU vs. LAKR). In terms of the squads on pen and paper, both teams are balanced in almost the same way with multiple stars in the lineup. It was the San Francisco Unicorns' second match of the season and the first for Los Angeles. SFU, after winning the first match of the season, was confident against LAKR.
Batting first, the Unicorns got a flying start even after losing their opener, Tim Seifert, because of Finn Allen and Jake Fraser-McGurk. The New Zealand batter, with a strike rate over 192, holds a 27-ball, 52-run innings, and Fraser-McGurk, the young Australian batter, was even more explosive. He scored 88 runs after facing 38 balls with a strike rate of 231.58. After these two massive innings, the Unicorns raced past 200, posting 219 in the first innings. Their total could have been more attractive if the middle order was able to continue the momentum instead of losing wickets.

In the batting-friendly track of Oakland Coliseum, 219 was not a comfortable total. The team from LA, batting second, was doing well until Unmukt Chand (53) and Matthew Tromp (41) were at the crease. The bowlers of SFU made the Knight Riders' task more difficult through their tight bowling and wicket-taking mentality. Xavier Bartlett and Rauf took 4 scalps each.
One of the most exciting moments of the match came when Rauf took off the wicket of Russell. It was the last delivery of the 13th over of the second innings when Rauf released a 146 kmpl delivery and caught Russell defenseless. The ball hit the deck and angled in to hit the timber. The swashbuckling batter was completely beaten by the excessive pace of the ball. The right-handed batter departed without scoring a single run. The Unicorns won the match by 32 runs.
