In a monumental recognition of his extraordinary contributions to the game, Indian cricket legend MS Dhoni has been added to the ICC Hall of Fame 2025. Dhoni is one of seven cricketers — two women and five men — who have been given this coveted honor in the most recent round of inductions by the International Cricket Council. Famous for his cool head in tense situations and his rock-like temperament, Dhoni's inclusion honors not only his statistical genius but also his intangible impact on the game.
The ICC, in its own statement, hailed Dhoni as a trailblazer in the shorter formats of the game, noting, “Celebrated for his calm under pressure and unmatched tactical nous, but also a trailblazer in the shorter formats, MS Dhoni's legacy as one of the game's greatest finishers, leaders, and wicketkeepers has been honored with his induction into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame.” This induction comes close to half a decade since his retirement from international cricket and just before his 44th birthday.
MS Dhoni’s career is studded with accolades and historic moments. Across all formats for India, he amassed 17,266 runs, executed 829 dismissals behind the stumps, and featured in 538 matches. These staggering numbers speak volumes of his excellence, consistency, and commitment to the game. He is the only skipper in cricket history to have gained victory in the ICC T20 World Cup (2007), ICC ODI World Cup (2011), and ICC Champions Trophy (2013), thus establishing himself as one of cricket's greatest leaders ever.
Responding to the honor, MS Dhoni welcomed the honor in a sincere message put up by the ICC. It is an hhonorto be named in the ICC Hall of Fame, which recognizes the contributions of cricketers across generations and from all over the world,” he said. “To have your name remembered alongside such all-time greats is a wonderful feeling. It is something that I will cherish forever."
