Shubman Gill was appointed as Rohit Sharma's successor in the Test setup ahead of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy in England, which is scheduled to start on June 20. Gill as a batsman is already a proven talent; now in the Whites, he has to prove his ability as the captain.
Though the batter gained some leadership experience with Gujarat Titans in IPL, the level of a franchise league and an international contest is not the same—a different ball game. Before leaving India for the upcoming Test series in England, the newly deployed skipper of the Test team heaped praise on his former captain, Rohit Sharma.
Rohit Sharma, the former skipper of the team, announced his retirement, and then BCCI selected Gill as his successor. After taking the new role on his shoulder, the 25-year-old said about carrying the legacy forward. He talked about the security Sharma, during his tenure, tried to ensure for every player of the squad. Now again, ahead of the series, Shubman talked about Rohit and his approach as a captain.

During a conversation, Gill said, "Rohit Bhai is also very aggressive in terms of tactics—he is someone who is very clear in communication—prior to the matches, during & after the series, about what he wants from players & the kind of environment Rohit Bhai keeps. Even if he is swearing at you, you won't take it to your heart; that is a great trait to have."
Shubman Gill, as a Gujarat Titans captain in 28 matches, won 15 and lost 13, with 2 no-results. As a T20I captain, he led India in 5 matches against Zimbabwe. With a record of 80 percent win ratio, he guided India to 4 wins and 1 loss. Notably, Gill hasn't led India in One Day Internationals yet but was appointed as the vice-captain for the Champions Trophy 2025.
